Are you looking for an experienced Orange County IVF doctor? At Newport Fertility Center, a Newport Beach infertility clinic, we perform research and continually evaluate every step in the IVF process to ensure that you obtain the best results possible when you seek fertility treatment in Orange County. Individual success is dependent on many factors, and treatment protocols are individualized for that reason.
A woman's age is the single most important variable affecting success rates, with the ability to become pregnant decreasing after the age of 35. It is still possible however, to achieve pregnancy after the age of 40. For many patients age 43 or above, donor egg IVF is a highly successful treatment option.

Dr. Kan's IVF Background and Experience
One of the most important factors in IVF success at any California fertility center is the embryo transfer. If the embryos are not placed in the optimal location, they have a much lower chance of resulting in pregnancy. Dr. Kan performs ultrasound guided embryo transfers for every transfer. At the 2002 meeting for the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, Dr. Kan won an award for his video presentation on Transvaginal Ultrasound-Guided Embryo Transfer Technique. The skill of the Orange County fertility specialist performing your procedures greatly impacts your success rate for pregnancy.
The following pregnancy rates are from the most recent 179 consecutive fresh in vitro fertilization patients of Dr. Kan through July 1, 2005.

At Newport Fertility Center, we believe that high success rates can be achieved by an infertility clinic for patients with a low multiple gestation rate. We follow the American Society for Reproductive Medicine Guidelines for the recommended number of embryos transferred. The above pregnancy rates were obtained with a high-order multiple pregnancy rate under 4%, well below the national average. Lower multiple pregnancy rates reduce the risks to patients and their babies via IVF in California.

A Note about PGD
Recently PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis) of the embryo has evolved as a tool which attempts to aid the genetic diagnosis of an embryo prior to transfer. PGD has risks and benefits, as well as limitations. We believe in judicious use of PGD for appropriate candidates, and that many patients will do better without PGD. Sometimes more technology does not translate to a better outcome. The decision to perform PGD is often a balance between the risks and benefits. The risk of Down's syndrome at age 40 is less than 2%. The risk for misdiagnosis for FISH with PGD can range from 5% to 10% or even higher. It is important to understand the risks and benefits when utilizing technologies like PGD.
